Maria's Mexican Restaurant - Taos: Reviews & Ratings
The food was delicious, My husband and I ate there July 19, 2025! We had the green chicken enchiladas with beans and calavacitas And Beef tacos! And great customer service!
Midafternoon on a Saturday doesn’t exactly help create a great atmosphere BUT we went for the food. Actually the atmosphere was fine and we enjoyed the setting very much. The food ranged from good to great. The chips and salsa came with a warning that the red was spicy. It was but also tasty. The green was very tasty with a hint of spicy. Deb’s tacos were delicious as were the calabacitas that came with them. I had fish and chips in a substantial amount. The cod was breaded in flour and panko mixture that was very crispy and crunchy. I thought the fish was a little bland but the red salsa added to the tartar sauce took care of that. The chips were freshly fried and quite long. Plenty of food, freshly prepared and good to eat. Looking forward to trying breakfast.
Working late in Questa, barely made it in before close and Cisco was more than happy to seat me. Food was excellent, had chille relleno enchiladas w/carnitas. Washed it down with a delicious horchata (my photos are terrible, food was better looking!)
We have been in Taos for 5 days. I tried several places some good some bad. This place the Christmas was so spot on. I love the green chili. It wasn't trying to take my lips off but the flavor was delicious. The red didn't feel like I needed to scrape it off of my tongue. We were so shocked because this place doesn't have a line stand outside. When we come back we will! This is definitely going to be the place that we have dinner nightly!
Food was good .. got it to go.. i ordered a Carne asada smothered burrito ( Christmas) with a bottle for soda and chips salsa and guacamole.. a little pricey.. but Good..
Go for classic Mexican dishes, well prepared at food prices. I had a smothered chicken burrito, Christmas style, the last time I was there. The stewed dark meat was ample and delicious. Both the Smoky red and more tangy green salsa were delicious. They melt some cheese on top as well. I have a friend who likes LOTS of cheese, so I am going to suggest they try it and ask for that accommodation. For sides, you choose two out of the three among rice, beans and calibacitas. I got beans and calibacitas and had some rice IN the burrito. How perfect is that? On prior visits, I've had the rellenos, tamales, and blue corn enchiladas. You can't go wrong here. Before they moved from their old location further south on Paseo Sur, I was told they were moving to "the old IHop location." Actually, it is the back of that building, with yet another canibis shop in the front. The easiest way to find it is to follow the signs for Joint. The interior is kind of chopped up, with a few booths near the entrance and more in a sort of back room. Service is friendly and efficient without being fawning. There is ample parking.
The food here is absolutely amazing, and worth every penny. If you’re trying to find a great place to eat with a chill atmosphere and fantastic service this IS the place!!! Don’t even hesitate to come! Maria’s is some of the freshest and best Mexican food I’ve had in a long time!
